As we wrap up the marine conservation courses for the year (we stop marine conservation courses from October 15th to December 15th) it is good to see the water temperature cooling down and the corals starting to recover from the massive coral bleaching event that happened earlier this year. In the end we lost about 30% of the corals around the island so new restoration projects will have to be put in place to help address the balance. One of the first jobs is to reduce the outbreak of drupella snails that are slowly eating their way through the surviving corals.
With the rains coming down hard this year the island is really quite so it’s time for a rest, read some good books watch a few good movies and get ready for the new season.
